We envision a world where learning and thinking differently is a gift!
Our mission is to promote and support the education and general welfare of individuals with learning and attention issues and their families.
What this means is that we want all children in Pittsburgh (and beyond) to have an equitable opportunity to become strong and confident readers. We do this by offering free, high‑quality reading support to students from lower-income families and that live in neighborhoods where resources are limited and the need is greatest. We believe that every child, no matter their background, race, family income, disability status, or zip code, deserves access to high quality literacy skills that shape long‑term opportunity and participation in school and community life.
Our team provides structured, research‑based reading instruction that reflects what we know works for struggling readers. We focus on students who are often overlooked or underserved, including children with learning disabilities, those that live in high-need neighborhoods, those from lower-income households, and students of color. Our tutoring locations are selected through ongoing engagement with community partners and by focusing on neighborhoods and schools identified as high or extreme need (Allegheny County Community Need Index). We supplement this local insight with public data from A+ Schools, the Pennsylvania Department of Education, and Pittsburgh Public Schools to ensure our efforts align with documented areas of need.
Our work is built on relationships. We stay closely connected with families, teachers, librarians, grassroot nonprofit organizations, and school staff so that our programs reflect the real experiences and priorities of the communities we serve. Feedback from students, caregivers, tutors, and school partners helps us adjust our approach and stay responsive to changing needs. This helps us advocate for students, demonstrate impact, and make sure our support is reaching the children who need it most.
At the heart of our mission is the simple belief that literacy is a civil right! Every child should have the chance to become a capable reader. Through community partnerships, a staff and leaders that reflects the students we serve, and a commitment to data‑informed practice, we work to close educational gaps and help build a more equitable future for Pittsburgh’s children.

A MESSAGE FROM COLLIN DIEDRICH
As a scientist with multiple learning disabilities I understand the personal struggle associated with thinking differently. However, I also know that having learning disabilities can be a gift. Our goal with LDA of PA is to provide services that can directly help students and adults that think differently achieve the life they deserve. Our services are focused on making science fun and accessible for everyone, demonstrating how comedy can be used to teach confidence and techniques to overcome negatives associated with thinking differently, and utilizing proven multi-sensory tutoring techniques to improve reading levels. One of our goals is to provide services on a sliding scale so no-one and no school is left behind because they are in financial need. We hope LDA of PA can help you, your loved ones, and community be happy.
Remember, everyone has a talent. Everyone has a gift. Let’s find them together!
